  4.     Trencherman Mickey Spillane, 71, was getting to be better known
  5. for slugging down Miller Lite than for batting out hard-boiled
  6. whodunits. But in November the writer will flex old muscles with
  7. The Killing Man, his first Mike Hammer tale in 19 years. "It's
  8. surprising how many people kept asking for another one," he says.
  9. Our hero is still tough as nails: when he isn't sporting with
  10. women, he's always ready "to blow somebody into a death of bloody,
  11. flying parts." Not great taste, maybe, but definitely more filling.
  12. "I don't write for art's sake," Spillane says. "I write for money."
  13. He's yet to have a case -- let alone a six-pack -- of writer's
  14. block that he couldn't handle: "If I need money, then I unblock
  15. real fast." His pay this time: $1.5 million.
